About me.

My name is Lorna, and I’m the founder of Amani Counselling—a therapeutic practice created to support those seeking peace, clarity, and healing. Amani means “peace” in Swahili, and this reflects my core intention: to offer you a space where you can feel safe, seen, and supported, just as you are.

I am a qualified and registered counsellor with experience supporting individuals through a range of emotional, relational, and psychological challenges. I am a trauma-informed practitioner, which means I hold an awareness of how trauma—whether past or recent—can affect the body, mind, and relationships. It also means I prioritise emotional safety, choice, and collaboration throughout our work together. While not all clients come to therapy because of trauma, this understanding allows me to meet each person with care, respect, and a deep sensitivity to what they may be carrying—whether spoken or unspoken.

My practice is pluralistic drawing from:

  • Person-Centred therapy
  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
  • Psychodynamic therapy
  • Broader psychotherapeutic principles

I specialise in working with:

  • Spiritual abuse and religious trauma
  • Adverse childhood experiences such as emotional neglect
  • Shame, guilt, and the internalised messages that keep us stuck
  • Attachment wounds and difficulties with trust or connection
  • Cultural identity, belonging, and self-expression
  • Transitions, such as leaving high-demand communities or navigating personal change

My role is not to fix or direct, but to walk alongside you—to help you reconnect with your truth, rebuild trust in yourself, and cultivate inner peace.
